Commission invests €78m in 18 projects

The European Commission has awarded grants to 18 new projects in the areas of raw materials, climate action, water, and Earth observation under its Horizon 2020 programme.
In total, the EU is investing more than €78m into the projects, which will involve organisations in 42 different countries, including 23 member states. Of the 18 chosen, 15 are in the area of raw materials.
Selected projects include ROBUST (Robotic subsea exploration technologies), co-ordinated by TWI Limited, UK; VERAM (Vision and Roadmap for European Raw Materials), co-ordinated by the European Technology Platform on Sustainable Mineral Resources, Belgium; and METGROW PLUS (Metal Recovery from Low Grade Ores and Wastes Plus), co-ordinated by Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy, Finland.
All were selected following the 2015 one-stage call for proposals which closed on 21 April.
New calls for proposals on the Circular Economy, climate services, Earth observation, raw materials, Nature-based solutions and cultural heritage are currently open. Go here for an overview of the calls.© Miran Rijavec
